Who should attend?
WSET level 3 qualification is open to people who hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits or can demonstrate that they hold the equivalent level of knowledge.
How will you benefit?
The aim of the course is to provide detailed analysis of the principle wines and spirits of the world. Students will also benefit from in-depth tastings where they will learn to identify product style, quality and price. Successful students will receive a certificate and a WSET Level 3 Award in Wines lapel pin.
WSET level 3 Programme outline
Wine Tasting: Learn how to taste professionally using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine. During the course you will taste at least 75 wines. This unit is examined by a blind tasting paper of 2 wines.
Production of Wine: How wine is made including the influence location, viticulture, viniculture, maturation and bottling has on the style and quality of wine produced. Learn also about labelling regulations.
Wine Regions: Learn about the main styles of wine from the key wine producing regions of France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Central and South Eastern Europe, North America, Central and South America, South Africa, Australia, & New Zealand.
Sparkling, sweet and fortified wines: Understand how these wines are made and other factors influencing their style
Consumer Advice: Learn how to give information and advice to Customers and Staff
Duration of course: 10, three hour sessions followed by the examination. Students are recommended to do an additional 56 hours home-study.
Examination: 50 multiple choice questions to be answered, and a question paper requiring short written answers. Blind tasting of 2 wines. The pass mark is 55%.
